F 男的慣性依賴與奧斯卡的離職 Fersen’s Constant Reliance and the Final Breakup: Why Oscar Chose Resignation

在1979年的旧アニばら舊版凡爾賽玫瑰動畫中,奧斯卡離開任職將近二十年的宮廷侍衛隊的原因,我認為有兩個:一個是擺脫 Fersen (菲爾遜/費爾森) 的糾纏,另一個是她在宮廷裡已經失去功能。而不是大多數人解讀的,是因為要斷絕對 Fersen 的思慕(?)。
In the 1979 anime Lady Oscar, I believe two primary reasons motivated Oscar to leave the Royal Guards after nearly twenty years of service: (1) the need for no more interaction with Fersen and, (2) the realization that her function within the Court of Versailles had become obsolete. This decision was not simply, as commonly interpreted, an attempt to cut off her unrequited feelings for Fersen.

 
這是2020版的《アニメ大解剖》,寫著:「フェルゼンへの思いを断ち切るために「より男らしく生きたい」と言い、アンドレと離れて生きようとするオスカル。アンドレはそんなオスカルに思わず激情をぶつけてしまう。」(為了放下對 Fersen 的感情,奧斯卡說他想過更男子漢的生活,並試圖與安德列分開生活,但安德列忍不住對奧斯卡發火) 這個描述太不正確了,我在另一篇文章分析了安德列爆炸的原因,是他在情感上被忽視了太久。I thought this description in the 2020 edition of the anime’s “analysis” mook so wrong, which says “In order to let go of her feelings for Fersen, Oscar says she wants to live a more manly life and tries to live apart from Andre, but Andre can't help but lash out in anger at Oscar”. I have another article ascribing André’s explosion in episode 28 to his emotionally being ignored for far too long.

中公文庫的彩色版アニばら,第9卷的書腰上寫著:秘めた恋に破れ、より男らしく生きる決意をしたオスカル。在暗戀失敗後,奧斯卡決定過著更像個男人的生活。這個描述有點太過簡化整個事情。不過這個性質偏向招攬客人的廣告,大概需要簡化並誇大。
The colored comic books published by Chuokoron Shinsha has its volume 9 wrapped in a book band saying something like: After her secret love failed, Oscar decides to live a more manly life.  This description oversimplifies the whole situation. However, since the book band is a part of advertisement to attract buyers, so it might tend to be simplified and exaggerated.

動畫中奧斯卡與 Fersen 是一種有毒的關係,她被他當成情緒垃圾桶。依照第 20 話描述,Fersen 與瑪莉的婚外情讓他極需獲得身邊眾人情感支持。而奧斯卡以一種非常女性化的方式回應他的痛苦。她在提供安慰的過程中,付出了大量的情緒勞動 (Empathy),這種付出很容易被誤以為是戀愛,並在心裡期待得到回報(被愛),她將他對她的依賴混淆為他對她的愛情,所以當他需求停止,她才意識到他從來不愛她。她是三角關係中的「備胎」角色,只有在主角關係出現問題時才被需要,一旦主角的關係修復,她就會被晾在一邊 。所以,當 Fersen 無視她、回瑪莉身邊時,她感到自己被利用了,所以她的反應才會這麼激烈地想穿回男人的盔甲。此外,Fersen 很善用奧斯卡的雙重模糊身份,在25話中,他曾說:「不禁讓人感嘆神為何將妳生為女性」,表示他確實、也早已知道她是女性👩🏻,當他需要傾訴時,她是能提供女性安慰的聽眾;當他需要維持距離時,她是不能被追求的男性同僚。
Before getting to the topic, I'd like to look into Oscar's feelings for Fersen. The anime portrays a sorta toxic dynamic where Fersen relies heavily on Oscar's emotional availability. In episode 20, we see that Fersen's affair with Antoinette leaves him seeking intense emotional support from those around him. Oscar responds to his distress in a very feminine way. She offers comfort by expending considerable emotional labor (empathy). Maybe Oscar misinterpretes this intimacy as romantic love, leading her to expect commitment. She confuses his reliance on her with genuine love, so when his needs stop, she realizes he didn't love her. She is the "backup" in the love triangle, only needed when the main couple's relationship's crises - his subsequent abandonment (return to Antoinette) can make her feel deeply used and exposed. This sense of betrayal is what precipitates her dramatic return to wearing male armor. Besides, Fersen manipulates Oscar's ambiguous identity. He does know she’s a woman. She is his female solace when he seeks comfort, and a "male" colleague safely out of reach when he needs distance.

原作中的奧斯卡對 Fersen 的心碎只是單純的單戀而已,而動畫中的奧斯卡要處理的卻是很複雜的難堪跟自我價值的懷疑,包括質疑自己是否只是「備胎」或「情緒垃圾桶」。她需要處理的心理任務包括區分同情與愛情以及修復自我價值,認清自己的價值並非建立在「被他需要」這個基礎上, 否則這種經歷會影響她未來建立健康關係的信任問題。
Unlike the manga's Oscar heartbreaking over Fersen for unrequited love, the anime forces Oscar to confront a complex crisis of self-doubt, including questioning whether she was merely an "emotional dumping ground." Her recovery requires distinguishing sympathy from love and rebuilding self-worth independent of Fersen's neediness, which might negatively prevent her from entering a healthy relationship in the future.

25話劇情交代瑪莉任命 Fersen 為「編制外的陸軍上校每天到凡爾賽執勤」,這多少排擠到奧斯卡的功能。在同一話中,奧斯卡已經知道與 Fersen 不會有結果,儘管如此,她仍沒有離職打算,而是穿上女裝與他共舞以求斷念。然而因為動畫中 Fersen 是主動糾纏者,奧斯卡是被糾纏者,所以她主動斷念等於沒用。先岔開一下話題,這裡凸顯出一個問題,就是原作的名場面塞到動畫裡面其實不一定協調,因為 Fersen 跟奧斯卡的互動已經跟原作不一樣。回來主題,所以第 28 話,我們看到,Fersen 又再度因為跟瑪莉的痛苦戀情跑來找他的情緒垃圾桶奧斯卡,他揭穿她暗戀他,意圖不明,可能是想證明自己的魅力、也可能一時衝動想跟她在一起,奧斯卡沒有與他進一步的打算,拒絕了他,又兩人也無法回到朋友關係自然相處,為了避免尷尬,只能絕交,這時奧斯卡才產生離職的想法。所以她離職的原因很清楚,是避免再跟 Fersen 接觸。
As foreshadowed in Episode 25, the recently returned Fersen was appointed reserve colonel in the Royal Regiment, a move that effectively sidelined Oscar’s professional position. Yet, despite this setback, she did not consider resignation. Later also in Episode 25, Oscar realizes she was an just a backup to Fersen so she takes action: a dress & a final dance with him, to put an end to her long-term romantic longing. (I note here, however, that some iconic scenes from the manga falls flat in the anime because the anime presents the interaction between Fersen & Oscar differently. Fersen is the actively manipulative & actively seeking reliance, so Oscar's unilateral attempt to let go is useless.) Returning to the main topic, so in Episode 28, Fersen again turns to Oscar due to his painful relationship with Antoinette. He forcingly exposes her secret crush on him, his intentions unclear—perhaps to prove his charm or perhaps just a fleeting impulse to be with her. Oscar, having no intention of moving on with him, rejects him. Since a natural friendship is no longer possible, she realizes she had to block all future interaction with him, not just to eliminate his constant reliance but also emotional pestering. It is precisely at this moment that Oscar begins to consider resigning. Therefore, the reason she resigned is clear: it is to avoid seeing or interacting with Fersen ever again.

另一個我認為奧斯卡離職的原因,是我前面所說的,她在宮廷裡的功能已經大不如前。25話女裝名場面落幕後,26、27話發生了黑騎士事件,正因為奧斯卡在宮中的功能已經被邊緣化,所以她才「插手」黑騎士的案子,可能是急於建立功勞證明自己的價值,正如安德列在 26 話所說,黑騎士的事有「警察」在管,不關她的事。最終安德列因為她插手黑騎士的事情而失去了一隻眼睛。安德列對於黑騎士的事情相當冷淡,還因為參加讀書會與奧斯卡交錯,兩人歧見甚深。從25話 Fersen 空降,到 F 奧 兩人無言的結局,再到她插手黑騎士、最後與 Fersen 絕交、提辭呈看來,證明了動畫版是如何精心鋪陳奧斯卡最終的辭職,利用「職能」和情感因素來取代奧斯卡在原作中的「思想覺醒」。
Another reason for Oscar's resignation, as I mentioned earlier, is the marginalization of her role in the court. Following the dress scene in Episode 25, the Black Knight case unfolds across Episodes 26 and 27. It is precisely because of her reduced status in the court that she sticks her nose into the Black Knight case, perhaps eager to establish merit and prove her worth. As André noted in Episode 26, the Black Knight case was under the investigation of the "police," not the Royal Guards. Ultimately, her unauthorized interference in the case leads to the tragic loss of André's eye. André's initial indifference to the Black Knight matter and his  prioritizing a book club event over Oscar’s mission underscores their deep disagreements about the thief. THUS, from Fersen's sudden appointment in Episode 25, to the futile ending of Fersen-Oscar relationship, to Oscar's involvement in the Black Knight case, and her eventual resignation, it is clear how meticulously the anime adaptation crafted Oscar's final departure. The narrative uses the intertwined factors of job function (marginalization) and emotional distress to replace Oscar's purely ideological awakening seen in the original manga.

但是,這些線索在動畫中的呈現有點迂迴,且環環相扣,我自己看過數次才注意到。影像媒體上,零碎的劇情常常只能用十幾秒帶過,如果呈現太多需要觀眾自行拼湊的零碎劇情,觀眾可能無法做到。這就需要透過編、導去進行補強了。
However, the said plot points, while interconnected, are presented indirectly and circuitously in the anime; I only noticed these links after watching the series several times. In a visual-based medium like anime, certain crucial plot details may be covered in just a few seconds. When too many fragmented plots are presented rapidly, it forces the viewers to actively piece them together—a task which many may fail to manage. This complexity points to an area where the writers and directors needed to strengthen the narrative cohesion and clarity.
